Hello Pierre.

I’ve been meaning to visit your site for some time; I am a frequent visitor to Jo Nova and Anthony Watts and have learnt much from them. I have one basic question; how do you pronounce your surname? Is it French or German; I would prefer to get it correctly.

Annie.

When speaking German, say it as a German would read it.
When speaking French, say it as a Frenchman would read it.
When speaking English, say it as an Englishman would read it. :)
Isn’t there this kooky Kate Gosselin figure in the US (no close relation, though almost all Gosselins in North America get traced back to Quebec City 1653)? Say it like the media say it.
Cheers

Gosselin has French roots, not German.

..and, pronounciation in Germany of Hugenot names (who escaped from France to Prussia back in the day) varies: “Brunotte” for instance is spoken in a German way with an audible “e” at the end; “de Maizière” is still spoken in the French way in Germany, as it would sound too silly when applying German phonetic rules.

I rather thought it had French origins but have no clue as to media pronunciation as I have never heard of Kate G!

I look forward to reading more on your site.

All best wishes from another former RC.

FYI: An ME degree from the university of Arizona would make Mr.Gosselin a graduate of their highly regarded College of Mines and Engineering. Their medical school is at the forefront of cutting edge cancer research and treatment.

The astronomy department as at the U. of A. is a key collaborator with both NASA and the European Space Agency, and it turns out they had a lot more to do with the recent landing of a probe on a comet than did M.I.T.

The American Association of Universities maintains the University of Arizona on its set-aside list of what it calls the “Public Ivy League”
…by attacking the analytical prowess of someone on the basis of their alma mater, you have successfully called your own cerebral fortitude into question.

Dear Wordsmith, by attacking the analytical prowess of someone on the basis of their alma mater, you have quite successfully called your own cerebral fortitude into question. But thanks for the comic relief, kid.

The (unintended) repetition of my comments in defense of Mr. Gosselin and the university of Arizona probably happened for the same reason, whatever it is.

The bounty on each rat is directly linked to how difficult they are to kill, which in turn is connected to the Security Status of the
system they are located in. However, the thing to remember here
is that you need to first take a backup before employing any extreme measures.
In favor of the game was the length and depth of the
storyline, the deep notes system that recorded
the information gleaned during play and the dark dystopian setting
that had folks traipsing around a garish Tokyo, brooding New York and various secret societies
and institutes trying to find out what UNATCO is really up to.

You, Pierre L. Gosselin, have an Associate Degree (2 year) in Civil Engineering at Vermont Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. You are not a climatologist. You do not even have an advanced degree in anything. Why are you even meddling in an area you know little about? (I doubt if you’ll print this. Goody-goody for you if you do.)

Thanks for confirming your obvious stupidity. Neither are Seth Borenstein, Andrew Revkin, George Monbiot, Leo Dicaprio, Al Gore, and the rest of the activists climate scientists, yet I don’t see them refraining from “meddling” in the area. At least I have a technical degree and know something about complex systems, models and data integrity. If the world’s engineers designed bridges, buildings, aircrafts etc. with the same quality of approach used by climate “scientists”, people would be dying of accidents by the tens of millions.

Pierre, I could be wrong but I seem to remember Bob Riinehart protesting the climate meddling of railroad engineer and soft porn novel writer Rajendra Pachauri, as the head of UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I think Bob was incensed that Pachauri was hired to direct an area he knew so little about.

I can’t find the link right now but I’m sure Bob saved it. He’ll be back soon to post it and set you straight.
